Fernando: On a scale from 1 to 10, how prepared are you if an earthquake strikes right now

P1:

Mother: 0!

Fernando: Oh so do you not know a lot about earthquakes?

Mother: I do but I just don’t really know how to prepare for them.

Son: What do you call prepared?

Fernando: Like if you were at home and one were to happen, would you know how to react.

Mother: No I don’t, I would just panic.

Fernando: Do you know about the big one we’re supposed to get.

Mother: Yes, actually my daughter was telling me about it a while ago so I know about it, but not too much.

Son: Yeah, but I would give a 2, does that solve your problem?

Fernando and Prathap: Yes, thank you

Fernando: If a earthquake were to strike would you be ready?

Prathap: like on a scale from 1 to 10?

Jack: I’d say 8

Fernando: Well that’s good can you go a little bit more in depth

Jack: Well just a little here and there, reading and stocking up on spare food, also my daughters school i’m pretty sure teaches her about how to prepare for one and how to react and stocking.

Fernando: Ok that’s cool, well thank you for your time, and have yourself a good day

Linda: Yes I did the training.

Fernando: You did?

Linda: Yes, at a community center in front of my house at Olympic village.

Prathap: On a scale from 1 to 10 how prepared do you think you are?

Linda: Well nobody is perfect, and I went to the training so I would say 5 or 6.

Fernando: I would say higher to be honest, your the first person we’ve met that went out of their way to go and prepare for an earthquake.

Linda: Yeah I mean well it’s very important because if m going to live in Canada i’m going to need to know about the risks that come with it, and how I can protect myself.

Fernando: Yeah of course

Linda: Okay I must go know I have to pick up my daughter thank you for the interview.

Prathap and Fernando: No problem, have a good day.

Prathap: Okay that’s really good can you add more to that?

Nick: Yeah well in high school which i’m sure you guys know that your taught a lot on how to prepare for them, so yeah I know where my near by community centers are and where to get emergency support

Fernando: Yeah I think we just had a drill like 1 week ago

Nick: oh that’s neat, well I have to get back to work, good luck guys

Miranda: Um well I would probably say a 7

Fernando: that’s good

Miranda: Yeah well I have kids of my own so I want to them to be prepared for the “big one” we’re supposed to get, so yeah just got food practiced with them on what to do.

Miranda: If I may ask how prepared are you

Fernando: Well I would say 5, my family just hasn’t done much to prepare for one so yeah not the greatest.

Miranda: Well that’s okay try to learn something today!

Fernando: I’ll try my best, but thank you for the interview.

Maria: Sorry, I don’t know much English

Barry: Oh right now, sure but I got nothing on me

Prathap: How prepared are you for an earthquake

Barry: I think Im well prepared

Prathap: Oh okay, and how about on a scale from 1 to 10?

Barry: Oh I would say about 8

Fernado: oh that’s good, well thank you

Barry: Yeah no problem, have a good day.

Spencer: Well i’m a nurse, so i’m not that to knowledgeable on earthquakes, but I do try and go over emergency routines with my family, I do it with my kids as well so it show’s that I care as well, because if parents do something kids are they’re more likely to do the same. So I would count to 60 with them and everything, we also have a little map on our fridge, and they know how to safely get to our garage for food.

Prathap: Wow that’s actually really good, you’re one of the few people we’ve interviewed that really went out of their way to prepare for one.

Fernando: So from a scale from 1 to 10 how prepared do you think you are?

Spencer: Um I would say 9, because there’s always room for improvement right, but i’m confident my family and I would do fine in an earthquake?

Prathap: Well thank you for giving us your time we really appreciate it.

Peter: Um yeah I would be ready

Fernando: So you know your stuff, and on what to do?

Peter: Yeah yeah

Prathap: So on a scale from 1 to 10 how ready are you?

Peter: I would say 7
